The First Medal Of The Year

After the tragedy of last week it was our next competition on Saturday and we had our first Medal of the year. I am sure it was the same for most people but it felt a little strange when I was teeing off the 14th and I had a thought of Duncan and his family as I played this hole. I have heard his wife is very grateful for all the support and help the members and the club have provided and she expects the funeral to be in Mid-April so they can arrange for all his family to be over from South Africa. We decided that all money collected, £336.00, from last weeks competition will be donated to whichever cause or charity that his wife may choose.

I do enjoy medal competitions as every shot counts, and this was no exception as I found out to my cost when I managed to take a 9 on the 4th. I was only about 40 Yards away in 2 but managed to put the next in the bunker, then thin that into the water (via a tree), could not make the green with the first chip, eventually made it on and 2 putted. So that's 7 from 40 Yards. I did however recover and made back to back birdies on 6 and 7 to end up going out in 40. I managed to play the next holes to handicap and ended up with 81, Net 72, and as the the 9 only counted as an 8 for handicaps that meant I got cut 0.2. I was playing with John Jordan and Ian Goodenough and all went well until the last hole, I think Ian was little disturbed that I had to get my camera out before I let him play his 4th shot, as you can see it was going to difficult with that tree between him and the green. Paul McHale won the comp with a fantastic Gross 68, 5 birdies and 1 bogey, the best round that I know of at Sinfold. Taking to him afterward it appears this is thanks to R&R. And that is not the obvious but it is Ryan and Rotella.
Next week I am playing with Harry in Pro-Am at Willingdon and then we have a busy Easter, with the TGI Launch on Friday ( sign up still places available), Pairs Comp Saturday and mixed Comp on Monday. Lets hope the weather holds out OK.
