So today I had the "pleasure" of playing in the first Harry's first Pro-Am in a team of three along with David Donaldson. I say "pleasure", but with winds of 30 Mph and gusting higher than that at Willingdon today it was probably the toughest conditions I have played in. I think it summed it all up for me on the very picturesque par 3 5th hole (http://www.willingdongolfclub.co.uk/guide.htm), where David hit his 4 rescue, just as the wind blew a little stronger and he did not quite make the green, hitting the sleepers, and bouncing back 60 Yards. I then hit my 4 rescue, and the wind dropped, and I flew over the green into the bushes, never to see the ball again. However we still had a very good day and I was very impressed with Harry's mature attitude to the game, if things went wrong he just got on with the next shot and he made 3 very good birdies in tough conditions. I did not play at my best, but not too bad, and we ended up with a respectable (in the conditions) 67 points, best 2 of 3 3/4 handicap, putting us 9th out of 21 finishers.
Of course I should also mention the winning team. Apparently they had a very tough round but all them "Dove-Tailed" well together and ended up making 75 Points. This was apparently aided by an eagle on the Par 5 14th by the Pro. The amateur's won a very nice Callaway 5 wood and the Pro won some money (of an undisclosed amount). I believe if you go to the Sussex Professional Web-Site www.spgu.co.uk over the next couple of days you may even see a picture of the winners. Of course this was none other than our own Pro, Lloyd Davies, along with Jeff King and Paul Gridley. Well played boys in very tough conditions.
