Easter Weekend Part 1

Well surprise surprise, a bank holiday and it rains. I am sure you are all aware but it has been a little damp over the last month, and of course the course is a little water logged at the moment. I know there is a lot of discussion about if the course should be open or not, I will put another post together to discuss all the options, but I for one decided to play and have played 51 holes over the last 2 days.
So Friday I met up with my fourball and had a good match. We were 1 down after 14 and then it started to rain and we decided to play to go in, just playing the 18th as there was nobody there. It rained a little and as we just finished it started to pour down. We only halved 18 and it cost me another couple of coffees, I have to stop playing for such high stakes. Of course if you want to challenge one of the pros and myself you can always enter the Captain Pro Challenge. Details here http://slinfold.intelligentgolf.co.uk/Captainpro%202010 and we are still looking for someone to play on the first day, 9th May. £25.00 each and playing with one of the Pros, you will learn a lot...But not from me.....OK enough advertising. For some reason I then thought I had enough time to go in the gym before I played the first TGI of the "summer". So I did 1 3/4 hours in the gym (more work on Glutes and the Core) and then went out for another 9 holes. It didn't do me any good as I went on to score 15 Points, but I sure slept well Friday night. Dean Wynter won with 21 Points, well played...

On Saturday we were playing the Slinfold Plate qualifier. This is the first of two comps where the top 16 will go into the summer four-ball better ball comp. I was playing with Rob Croxford today and we were paired with Andy Puttock and Frank Catlow. We had a great fun day and Rob and I managed to achieve 39 points in very wet conditions. I think that may put us in second place but as so many people (half of the entrants) did not put there scores in the computer today it may take a while to be finalised. So a little moan, if you play a comp. please put your score in the computer, if you don't it just means the starters have to do it for you. We all give up our time voluntarily to help you guys, so please help us and have the common courtesy to enter the cards in the computer. I know there were some issues today, but it happens in every comp.

So lastly on a lighter note it seems I have started a trend. Please see the photo attached. This was Brian Johnstone's shot to the 2nd, and the green was to the right. Richard Kindon, our Vice Captain, could not wait to take this picture. I don't know what the resulting score was, but have noticed that they used his partner, Jeff's, score on this hole

  1. Clive,
Re. the Saturday IG entries - I think it was unfamiliarity with entering a pairs event that caused the issues. I had never done this before and only by watching those in front did I have a clue. They took 10 mins to work it out and correct errors and so did we. Clearly, many people had to get away or got fed up with waiting and just dropped the cards (esp. those with lower scores on the day).

  2. Agreed - i spent 5 minutes in front of the machine - sought advice from Harry and Andy and was still no wiser so dropped card in.

  3. Cliff, yes I realise that yesterday was a little more difficult, and IG does not make it easy to enter the scores, so yesterday was an exception.

However this also happens in all comps where people just don't enter the card, or don't leave it if they have a bad round, it takes the starters an additional hour or so to go through all the cards find out who is missing, put in scores for people who have not done it etc. So just a polite reminder to those who do not think about it :-)
