Does training and lessons really work...

Well its interesting, and I believe the only way to get better is to listen to people who really know what they are talking about (and that does not mean the other people you play golf with). Of course with Ryan, Lloyd and Harry they now all talk about how to improve the swing, short game and fitness. But does it really work?. I think we may have some proof if we look at the last three Mens competitions at Slinfold.

1. Paul McHale, March Medal, been having lessons with Ryan and some personal training from Jenny, shot a 68 - 7 ahead of second place and cut to 4.
2. Andy Puttock, Seniors Stableford he purchased an Auction prize of a lesson with Kier and Ryan, then shoots 43 points - 4 ahead of second place and cut 2 shots.
3. Chris Miles, April Stableford, I recently saw him in the gym with Kier, not sure what else he has done, shoots 45 Points - 7 ahead of second place and cut 4 shots.

I think I was convinced already but looking at the above you can decide for yourselves.

  1. Clive,
I accept your point, however, perhaps a wider analysis would be needed for it to be 100% compelling. A quick flick through past comps reveals a number of winners in the 40's and, particularly in the seniors section, some have significant physical challenges making gym work prohibitive. They may have lessons from our pro's but I suspect not. I wish the lessons I have had over the last couple years would give me a 40+ result.....perhaps that will happen next week :-).
