One month in and what have we achieved?

So its been a month, and I don't think I have upset too many people yet, maybe I should try harder. I think the real Public side of being Captain runs from March to November, but I must say I still find it nice as people call you Captain or Skip when you meet them ( what ever else they say when your not there doesn't mater :-).
A lot of the background work starts in Autumn the year before, this is when all the new captains put the diaries together for the year ahead and this takes a lot of effort from the various committees to get all the match fixtures and dates for comps etc. that don't clash and give a selection of days for people to play golf. I think we did OK this year and you should have all had the diaries now. One major change in the Mens diary is moving the Club Championship to July where we will get a longer day and we hope warm weather. We have also added a seniors invitational, a mixed club championship and a charity day in June. I think we have a good selection of competitions for all the sections but I would just like to give a quick advance thank you to all the volunteers in the Mens, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors Section, and of course the staff at Slinfold, who will make it simple and easy for the majority of the members to turn up and play golf in fun and qualifying competitions throughout the year.
This years charity, Dreams Come True, is great and we have had a lot of support so far. We plan to have a small stand at Captains Drive In so you can see a little bit more about what they do and Martin from the charity will be auctioned off as a caddy for the day.
Captains day is on 7th March and we are hoping for a large turn out. There are 75 entries on the sheet, we think we can accommodate 128 so it is filling up fast. We are doing a lot of work to put everything in place for this and I hope it will be a fun day for all with some nice prizes for the winners. Also it wold be good to raise at least £1000 for charity that day.
Change of Slinfold colours. The Captains this year have decided the old white shirts we have had need changing and we are going to moving to a different design of shirt and it will be Light Blue. It would be nice to see as many people wear these in club competitions as possible and show a great team spirit when we play.
And the club, I think Andy is settling in now and it is good to see some of the initiatives he as put in place. I now think it is a wonderful place to be if you are playing golf or just up for a drink, or even in the Gym. We have so many new members and it is certainly increasing the competition entries for the mens competitions, this weekend we have 60 people in comp that last year had only 31. I know it is the same for all sections and we are all doing our best to integrate the new members into the club and if you are new I hope you are enjoying it.
So I hope we are like a group of Swans, on the club logo, we look calm and majestic on the surface but underneath we are paddling away.
