First Friendly Match of the Season

Today we had our first match of the season against Seaford Head. These are always great fun and it was good to see some new faces playing in them this time. It has always surprised me that last year there were never enough people signed up but this year we have more people signing up and Richard Kindon had to put some people on the reserve list. So please sign up for the next matches and if you have been on the reserve list before Richard will try to get you in a place for the next match.
So we all met up at 10:00 for breakfast, and announced the teams, and as is tradition the Captains go out first. So John Jordan (10) and Myself (8) were playing Jason (6) and Dave (9). With the handicaps being close together it was always going to be a tight match. So after 9 holes, and a couple of exchanges, we ended were 2 down, but we still had a shot on 11 and John had an extra shot on 15. It was also obvious by this Stage their Captain Jason was going to out talk me ( yes you heard me correct). I managed a birdie on the par 3 10th with a long putt of about 40 Feet, but we then lost the 11th to a birdie, only for John to Birdie the par 3 12th and get us back to just 1 down. It remained this way until the 15th where John won the hole with a net birdie and we then won the 16th when I made another Par 3 Birdie, so we had 3 x 2's. We went on to win the match on the 17th and it just shows how quickly it can turn around with our three holes in a row. Our gross FBBB score wouls have been 7 Under off 3/4 handicap.
The rest of the Team played well too and we ended up narrowly loosing 3.5-2.5, much better than last years 5-1 or the year before 6-0. It is great to play somewhere so different from our normal ParkLand golf, where the wind plays such a large part of the protection for the course.

And my Long Weekend has now increased as I will playing Josh in the Scratch Match play Monday morning before going over the West Sussex in the afternoon for the PAV Practice Match.

  1. Close and looks promising for next year with that level of improvement.
First friendly match over and done with next one next weekend, are all the new shirts that were ordered in March in yet?
