So today the team were at Tilgate (Jeff King, Richard Kindon, Nick Baker, Paul McHale and Myself). We met up at 8:00 am for our 9:00 am Tee Time, but the bar does not open until 9:00. Luckily they sold some coffee in the pro shop. So Coffee and quick warm up on the range and we were ready to play......just as it started to rain. The forecast was for rain all day and it sure lived up to that, how does the weather know it's a bank holiday weekend?
So I was off last and was playing a 4 Handicapper, tilgate had 2 x 4 H/C 2 x 5 H/C and 1 10 H/C. I got off to a bad start loosing the first 2 holes after being blocked out by trees after a couple of wayward shots but I got it back at my first shot hole and pulled it back all square at my second shot hole. However my short came was a little poor today and I thinned at least 3 chips and 3 putted 4 times so I was not surprised to be 4 down after 9. I birdied the 10th, but so did my opponent and then another birdie on 12 got me back in it, but all the damage was done by then and I ended up loosing 4&3 on the 15th. After catching up with the rest of the guys it became clear that my talents in a play-off would not be required as all five of us had lost. I think home advantage on a rainy day was just too much for us to beat. But we had a good run in the competitions and have beaten Gatton, Mannings and Worthing, so it shows the golf at Slinfold is getting stronger. We wish Tilgate well in the rest of the competition and they told me today they have been to round 8 before, the one before the finals. So there is hope for next year. We will be back.
