So today we played our Scratch match against West Sussex. Even though there was a little rain today it still was great to be out and playing golf at a lovely course. We all met today at 7:30 for coffee and it was good to see the team spirit that we had, and today all the team had Caddies, and I would like to thank Adrian McGavock who had offered to caddy for me. It is always is amazing how much easier it can be to play to golf and concentrate when you don't have to worry about where your clubs are.
So today we new we were in for a tough challenge as there are some very low handicappers at West Sussex, I found out after the match that there handicaps ranged for the Highest of 1 and the lowest of +2. Richard Clegg and myself were out first in the mornings foursomes, and we played well together but made some silly mistakes and ended up loosing 3&2. It also turns out that one of the players we had played in the morning was an ex-pro who had played on the challenge tour. The rest of the team played well, and Matt Eyre and Mick Fisher managed to secure a win. So after the foursomes it was 3-1 to WS.
In the afternoon singles I was off second, and it turned out the guy I was playing was an Ex-Tour Pro, who had played on the tour for 15 years, with a few wins under his belt. We had a great match but I was 4 down with four to play, but I did manage to win the next two holes, and needing a birdie at 17 to take the match to 18 just left the Putt short, so 2&1 for me. The rest of team did not manage to secure any victories but it was great effort by all the guys, and although he end score was 11-1 it was a lot closer than it appears.
Nick Baker has done a great job this year organising the Scratch team and we are now in the PAV Plate so our next match should be 12th June. I will be doing my best for selection because every time I am able to play in these circumstances I just learn so much.
So now on to my next challenge. The first Captain/Pro of the season at 8:00 in the morning.
