Mixed Bader Cup

So today was the Bader Cup. This is a mixed charity event where the winners go through to a qualifier and then if they win that there is a tournament in Portugal. See this web site for more info http://www.thebadercup.co.uk/. It was a fantastic turnout with 14 pairs playing and it is great to see so many new lady members at Slinfold.
So today I had the pleasure of playing with Barbara Wilson (next years Lady Captain) and we were paired to play with Melissa (this years lady captain) and Don, so in such esteemed company I would have to behave myself. The format for the day was Greensomes off 1/2 combined handicap so we had 15 shots for the day, and I hoped we could use them well. On the front 9 we played very well and shot a 39, and that was with bogeys on both the par 3's. This gave us 22 points which is always a nice score. Barbara played very well and I was very impressed with her putting and chipping from just off the green that saved us many shots over the 18. On the back 9 we managed a 6 on the 10th after I pushed my 5 iron from Barbara's drive that was right in between the two 150 markers. We continued to play very well until the 16th where I pulled my Tee shot into the rough and Barbara just put hers in the water. We took mine out the rough but did not make a good effort at it and ended up with our only blob of the round. We did manage 19 points on the back 9 but our score on the Par 3's was only 5 points and as I have seen many times before the Par 3's can make a big difference to the round.
We had played well and 41 points turned out to be a good score. John Jordan and Karen Ashcroft had also managed 41 points, but on countback they beat us, so second place. I want to change the rules and make it the difference in letters between Christian and Surname that won it as I am sure JJ and KA gets beaten by BW and CW every time, but they would not let me change the rules and Karen and John go on to the qualifiers at Piltdown in August.
Good Luck and it would be great to get a Slinfold pair in the finals in Portugal.

  1. Never satisfied are you Clive. Personally, I would be delighted with 41 pts. Jan and I would have played today but our handicaps were not low enough to enter. BTW, I have been waiting to sign up to Captains day but it has not appeared on IG. Are you planning a different entry route?
Finally, my feet have recovered. Thx. Rgds, Cliff M
