This Weekends Golf - 2nd, 3rd Jan

Well it's sure been cold this weekend. Playing in conditions with the greens frozen is always a challenge as you have to manufacture different shots just to get the ball to stay on the green.
On Saturday Rob Croxford and I took on the Bakers, Nick and Gary, in the winter foursomes. The 2nd produced a very strange shot from Gary as when he hit his Tee shot the ball had a very strange flight and landed up short of the pond. We thought he had just hit a bad shot but Gary said he thought he had hit it well, so when we got to the ball we had a look and it had a big split down the middle (The offending ball is in the picture), needless to say they did not use the old yellow balls from the back on Nick's cupboard any more in the round. We had a good start and won the first 4 holes, and the luck tended to go our way throughout the match. This was finally pointed out to me by Gary who, as we walked up the 11th Tee, after we had just won the 10th with a net birdie, said did you know - 1. Your tee shoot hit the path and you got an extra 40 yards on the drive 2. The next shot went into the Bunker and bounced out again. 3. The chip onto the green would have gone 20yards past the pin had it not hit it and stayed 2" away. Well I hope this luck continues. We eventually ran out 4&3 winners in a match played in great spirit.

My luck finally run out on Sunday when Richard Clegg and I played Don Peacock and John Jordan in a social FourBall better ball. We were 5 down after 5 holes with JJ being 1 under par. We did get back to 1 down after 15 but were finally beaten on the 17th.

Well OK back to work tomorrow, but it's only for one week as I am off to Portugal on Sunday to play in the Sussex Pro-Am. I hope it will be warmer out there.
