Was This The Most Depressing Week Of The Year?

Statistics somehow say this was the most depressing week of the year, starting with Blue Monday on 18th. For me the week was not the easiest as it was my first back from Holiday and then while trying to catch up the e-mail landslide that we tend to get nowadays my PC got a Virus. I have been "Infected" before but have always managed to clean it, this time however it killed everything, changed my desktop background, blocked access to all admin tasks including Task Manager and just kept flashing up YOU HAVE A VIRUS, please click here to buy Internet Security 2010. In the end I got to a stage where I could not even log in to windows and even trying to reload XP was not allowed as it found a Virus on the Hard Disc. We run Anti Virus on all our work PC's but somehow this still got through. Luckily I had backed up all my Data before I went away but it was hard work catching up with everything via Web Access on my home PC. New PC being built by the office and will be available Tuesday. So maybe they are right a Depressing Week.

BUT then it comes to Saturday and  as I am starting the Men's Competition I am at the club at 7:20 with Don Peacock who is helping me. And YES, the course is open and we can play, so the week is getting better. We ended up with 47 players who all went out and we decided to make it a qualifier. The Committee of course were concerned about the condition of the course before we played but we decided that if the course was too bad so would the scores be and the Competitions Scratch Score (CSS) would sort it out. My Tee time was 10:20 and I played at the back of the field with just Don and Myself, so we expected a slow round and tried to pace ourselves accordingly (a nice gentle strole for 4 hours 40 minutes, we still need to work on speed of play). We were expecting the fairways, greens and rough to be very wet but NO, the course was in fantastic condition. I think everyone that played was pleasantly surprised and also very pleased with the condition of the course after the weather we have had. I did speak to  Peter, TheGreen Keeper, on Sunday morning and mentioned how good it was, and we joked that the best way to keep the course in good condition for the winter is to stop people playing on it for 2 months. My round was mix of good holes and bad holes, summed up when I lost my ball on the 9th in the trees on the right, there was a group of visitors in the same trees playing the first and when I asked if they had seen my ball, they said no, but in my mind I could see in their eyes they had picked it up and put it in their pocket (its amazing what we can blame when we play a bad shot).
After playing I then managed 1hour 45 Minutes in the Gym. Everybody tells me "this is doing you good" but I am not sure my body realises this yet. I did however have to do my 900 Calories for the Calorie Counting task. I had completed 450 during the week and another 600 on Saturday and some weights and core training got me enough. (are you all joining in?)

Sunday we had a friendly fourball better ball game where David Court and Jeremy Smith took on Davie Robertson and Myself. Again it was another wonderful winters day and the course still played well. David and Jeremy were just too strong for us as they played 1 over between them on the front nine and were three up at the turn, we did manage to win 11 and 12 to get it back to one down and when they won 13 I thought we were OK. What is that saying, 2 up 5 to play? Well we destroyed this myth as Jeremy and David went on to win 14 and 15 and beat us 4 and 3.
