So from Monday Electric Trolleys will be banned and only pull trolleys with Hedgehogs will be allowed. Is this the right thing to do? Well I think YES. I would go further and like to see a complete ban on Trolleys and people can take a small pencil bag out with just half a set if they have difficulties carrying a full set. There will be exemptions for people with real medical issues so that’s fair, but surely most people who can walk 18 holes can also pull a small light-weight trolley or carry a small bag. I personally find it easier to carry in the winter as you don’t have to walk around all the roped off areas and it speeds up play. It was not very long ago that trolleys were an exception and most people did carry, and it is only very recently that there is such an influx of electric trolleys as they have become cheaper.
This must protect the course as it stops people pushing/pulling heavy trolleys through the same areas (you only have to look at the walk off are on the first to the left of the GUR to see the problems caused), and the more people that carry the more the load is spread over the whole course rather than just the trolley areas which become very overused and damaged. I have heard people say “I pay my membership so should be allowed to do what I like”, well I pay mine too, why should some people be allowed to ruin the course for the others who want it protected.
Of course this is only my personal opinion, let me know what you think, you can comment below.

I agree. Like many, I have knee problems but I do move over to carrying during the winter. I have played at Slinfold in the winter and at other clubs with trolley bans. The difference is remarkable in the state and enjoyment of the course.
ReplyDeleteThose that wish to continue to use trollies could always invest in, and stick to, a cart path around the course and may be charge a toll for others to use!!!
